Renewable energy leads in electricity generation in El Salvador
San Salvador, Jan 17 (Prensa Latina) The power generation from renewable sources in El Salvador covered 76 percent of the country's demand, the sector's sources stressed. Renewable energy leads in electricity generation in El Salvador. The General Superintendency of Electricity and Telecommunications (SIGET) informed that those sources: hydropower, solar energy, geothermal energy, wind power, and biomass, helped to lower the costs of energy consumed by the population in 2022. On Monday, the SIGET confirmed a decrease in electricity prices in this quarter until April, when the tariff’s components will be re-assessed. A price hike occurred in 2022 despite the Government’s efforts to boost initiatives of alternative and low-cost sources such as geothermal energy.

The General Superintendency of Electricity and Telecommunications (SIGET) informed that those sources: hydropower, solar energy, geothermal energy, wind power, and biomass, helped to lower the costs of energy consumed by the population in 2022.
It is an example of the consolidation of a sustainable and environmentally friendly energy matrix.
The SIGET stated in a communique that those results would allow reducing the average price of electricity by 2.5 percent nationwide in the first quarter of 2023.
